Mr. Melehy began his legal career in 1987, when he served as a judicial law clerk to Maryland Court of Appeals Judge William H. Adkins, II and then for 8 years as an Assistant Attorney General with the Maryland Attorney General's Office. Mr. Melehy has obtained numerous verdicts in federal and state court in wage and discrimination cases. A large portion of Mr. Melehy's employment law practice involves representation of federal employees in federal court, before the Equal Opportunity Employment Commission (EEOC), and before the Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). He also represents many District of Columbia employees in various disputes with the District of Columbia government. Mr. Melehy has also represented many private sector plaintiffs in employment discrimination cases, wage and hour disputes, and other actions concerning the terms and conditions of employment.

Mr. Melehy has achieved an AV - Preeminent (5 out of 5) rating from Martindale-Hubble Peer Review Ratings, which is the highest rating available. The AV-rating is based upon Mr. Melehy's exceptional legal knowledge and legal experience. He is a member of the District of Columbia and Maryland Bars. He is also on the Board of Directors and a Committee Chair on the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association and is Board Member of the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. He is the former the Board President of the Employment Justice Center, an advocacy group for low income wage earners.

Mr. Melehy and his law firm have represented countless employees in hearings and trials in both state and federal court. He has extensive appellate experience in Maryland and the District of Columbia, which has resulted in many precedent-setting decisions.
