Maryland Intercounty Connector (ICC) and Eminent Domain

In July 2005, Maryland Governor Bob Ehrlich proposed that Maryland build an east-west highway across the Washington suburbs, in Montgomery and Prince George's Counties. A number of properties will be seized by the government to implement this new construction. When the government seizes such properties, property owners are entitled to fair market value and just compensation under eminent domain laws. If your property is affected by the new inter-county connector or a similar type of new construction, you may want to contact an attorney at Melehy & Associates for more information about your property rights.

No Child Left Behind and Special Education Laws

Since the No Child Left Behind Act was published in 2002, many laws and achievement standards have changed in the school systems. These changes have left many parents confused about their children's education rights.

In 2004, Congress passed a new law called the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) that significantly impacts special education students and places stringent standards on school systems with regard to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). If you are a parent, teacher, administrator or child advocate, you may benefit from researching more about the new education laws. See Frequently Asked Questions about NCLB.

Since the Education laws are fairly new, litigation of education cases is constantly changing. If you think your child is being left behind in his or her current school system, you may benefit from a consultation with an attorney at Melehy & Associates. Vincent Melehy practices education law and is current on Education cases that result from litigation of No Child Left Behind laws and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
